The Canine Chronicle interviewed Professional Handlers’ Dan Buchwald and Lisa Blondina on the new AKC regulations and guidance on leaving dogs unattended in vehicles. Watch below.
First off, I want to thank the Canine Chronicle for highlighting this important issue. By way of background, the American Kennel Club put forth new policy on leaving dogs unattended in vehicles and repercussions should that lead to harm of any dog. This interview showed how two professional handlers handle dog safety in vehicles and put the dogs as the top priority.
Second, I want to thank the AKC for elevating dog safety, speaking for dogs first, and highlighting that anyone involved in AKC sports must have the safety of the dogs as their top priority. Quite frankly, that is refreshing that the AKC felt the need to make changes. There have been too may dog deaths in unattended vehicles over the past year. The AKC acknowledged that.
Third, I want to thank Dan Buchwald and Lisa Blondina for the multiple steps that they have taken to ensure their dogs are safe and elevating the welfare and health of the dogs. The efforts they put forth are commendable.
Finally, I want to give additional commendation to Dan Buchwald for his comments. Mr. Buchwald stated in this interview:
“I will always stand on the side of the dog. The dogs didn’t ask to be here, it is our responsibility to care for them.”
Thank you!
And, he further comments;
“If you are driving down the road and god forbid a deer crosses the road and there is a collision, that is an accident. But, if you leave your dogs unattended and they suffer, heat strokes or death because of that, that is not an accident, that is negligence.”
You sir, hit it spot on! I am grateful and appreciative for that comment. It is what we have been saying all along.
Please watch the video. Excellent interview with Dan and Lisa.
